Also called caps. These are used to cover part or the whole of the tooth to protect it from further damage. They are generally used for heavily filled and/or root canal treated teeth. They can be made from different materials such as metals and/or ceramics.
Veneers are usually thin ceramic facings used on front teeth to address aesthetic concerns involving tooth shape and colour (when not responsive to whitening).
A bridge replaces missing teeth by using teeth on the sides of the gap to hold the artificial tooth/teeth. Bridgework can vary in design and can be made from different materials such as metals and ceramic. Bridges are fixed and do not permit self removal
Partial Dentures: Also called plates. These are removable appliances and permit self removal. They are used to replace missing teeth and can vary in design. They can either be made plastic or metal based. Plastic based plates can be used short to medium term while metal based plates are generally for long term use.
Complete Dentures: These are also removable appliances but instead replace all of the teeth in one/both jaws.
Implants are titanium screws that fuse to the jaw bone and can be used for a variety of restorative applications that involve single crowns, bridges, or dentures. The number of implants and the design of the restoration can vary widely depending on the situation.
Tooth wear is a normal process that occurs with ageing. However, some people will experience accelerated wear rates which can compromise the teeth if left unmanaged. This could be due to clenching/grinding, dietary factors, or medical conditions. Management involves addressing the causes and protecting the teeth from further damage. Protection involves wearing a removable appliance referred to as a nightguard which is made from hard plastic. In some cases, restoration of the teeth with plastic fillings or crowns is required.
Aesthetic concerns involving teeth shape, colour and gaps can in some cases be addressed using veneers or crowns. These can be used to modify the shape of the teeth and change their overall appearance.
This can involve multiple teeth or a full mouth restoration. Such cases include (but not limited to):
-Treatments requiring a combination of restorations
-Treatments requiring multiple specialist care
-Rectification of defective/damaged previous restorations
-Severely discoloured teeth
